Yeah it was indeed on the 8, they seem to be dynamite in Galway for putting coaches on city routes at times, but generally a coach will go on say the 5 or 8 or whatever and do one lap only. No idea what the VGs are like to be honest, but others on this board don't seem to be too fond of them so Cork is probably as well off not to have them! In saying that apparently some drivers love them. The one thing everyone seems to think about them is that they have rock hard seats though.

It seems to be the done thing in Galway that citybuses do some schools work, but as far as I know the schools duties are only around the city so there really is no need for seatbelts at low city speeds, by the way Capwell used to have service citybuses on schools duties, VWL137 used to do a schools duty for Rochestown College until at least 2010 (a private does it now though). Anyway when you think of it the service buses in Cork do a lot of "schools" work, like the 5 passes by Pres and many students who attend Pres use the 5 to go into school and to go home, same with the 7 and Regina Mundae or Chríost Rí/Christ the King etc.

A service bus can be used on schools (regardless of whether or not there are seatbelts) but not vice versa unless the school bus is taxed for service (easily identifable because a school bus that does service work will have a Wayfarer fitted). Otherwise once a bus is downgraded to schools it cannot be used on service work - school buses are taxed at a lower rate than service buses are.
