Well that is an option, but remember it's not just the engine and gearbox that have all that mileage and age clocked up, after all DF450 did start off as D450 so it's already had an engine transplant.

All the other mechanical components like the brakes and chassis etc are all 38 years old as well and doubtless they need lots of attention as well at this stage of their lives.

I would have thought it would be more expensive than €5000 to re-engine DF450 as an engine from an Olympian will have to be adapted for an Atlantean and of course newer Olympians have fully automatic gearboxes and I think DF450 has a semi auto(maybe when it got a DAF engine they changed it to a full auto but I don't think they did put full autos when the Ds were re-engined). It would be fairly expensive to re-engine DF450 IMO.

If they were thinking of re-engining DF450 it would make more sense to get an engine from one of the 96 RAs or one of the tours RAs, they have had a relatively easy life so the Cummins engine in one of these would be able for many years service.

On the other hand if they convert AV118 they are getting something considerably newer, something more economical and less polluting to the Environment and most importantly it is low floor.

It should definitely be converted, perhaps they could take on AV118 and use it to replace RH31 instead of DF450?
