Welcome back VWL. There are definately some positive features to the new layout at Parnell Place, in particular the front area facing on to the Quay. That place was a mess before hand with that very badly located bus stop and that odd red brick area. It is now much easier for buses exiting the front of the station. The appearance of the street in the general is much improved and tidied up.
However it still has many disadvantages:
- Namely the inability of a bus to circle the bus station, this has created operational inflexibility in what buses can be parked at the front of the station. If a bus at the front must be used for a service departing from the back, it has to do the full circuit through the city centre.
- Lower Oliver Plunkett street is too narrow for three lanes. If a bus is parked there, two buses cannot pass in the other two lanes.
- While the northbound bus lane on Parnell Place is a good idea, in reality it isnt of much use. It is difficult for buses to get into it when turning out from Lower Oliver Plunkett street and to enter the bus station, a bus has to turn out into the traffic lane to get around that piece of footpath that juts out at the end of the taxi rank. As a result some bus drivers dont bother with that lane.

Regarding the 226/A, indeed loads are very good on it. I still question the wisdom of amalgamating the 226 & 249 however. It should of been let the way it was and give Kinsale a clockface hourly timetable. There is always either a VWD or SE on it in the morning to cope with the loads. The amalgamation of the route has caused higher loads and in a sense I would argue that LD's should be used on it!

Yes the take up of Leap is quite low. It is seen as slow and drivers find it akward. Most people just arent into electronic payments and top ups etc. As the saying goes, cash is king!
