Forgive my ignorance, but what are routes 401 and 408?

I thought Galway operates as Cork and Waterford; 1, 2,3 etc for the city routes?

Was today the first day that a DD was out in action in Galway?

401 and 408 equal 1 and 8 except that I use Wayfarer codes for clarity (for anyone's questions, Limerick has their routes 301-312 because that's how they are coded for Wayfarers [they cannot use 1 to 12 again, because these are Expressway routes], but Cork has their 1-19 encoded in Wayfarer system as 201-219 as well - Cork have routes 200-299, Limerick have 300-399 and Galway have 400-499, don't they?). Galway do operate showing 1-9 (to be honest, 1S for Salthill, 1D for Salthill via Devon Park, 2D for Knocknacarra/Seacrest, 2W/2E for Knocknacarra/Lisbeg Lawn [this is actually just 2 that has a letter for it's direction - stupid!], 3 for Ballybrit, 4W/4E for Newcastle/Merlin Park [as above], 5W/5E for Rahoon/Ballybane, no 6, 7 for Bóthar an Chóiste, 8 for Mervue [1 and 8 form one route actually, because buses coming from Salthill that aren't 1D go to the 8 stand at Eyre Square and buses coming from Mervue go to 1 stand] and well-known 9 for Dougiska - need to talk to Bus Eireann to sort things out a bit [at least delete extra letters]...) on their direction displays, nevertheless routes are formally 401-409... Even worse! 1S = 401 on Wayfarer, 1D = 401A, 2D = possibly 402B, 2W = 402, 2E = 402A, 3 = 403, etc... "E" routes have "A" on the end of their Wayfarer code. On the other hand, Claddagh N.S.'s school buses (school => home) have 401 or 405 set up because they start at Salthill area and end at Rahoon area, in the other direction they have 404 or 405.
End Off-Topic.

I haven't seen a DD before (at least in Galway :) ), and anyway I don't spend much time at bus served roads so I do not have a clue.

Sorry for my long-writing about Wayfarer and all that kind of BE things.
