Yeah you're right, though the takeover is thought to be worth £300 million and Souter owns a 55% stake in ADL. Not sure if ADL makes him a lot of money, last year it made only about £10 million in profit and that's been fairly consistent over the past few years from what I gather. Stagecoach makes a lot more money, over £200 million a year in profit over the past 5-6 years. So I could see why he might be interested in selling it.

It would be a good development for the bus industry as the UK's largest bus manufacturer and bus company would no longer be in common ownership. Volvo taking over ADL would be interesting, I'd say that might mean the end of Volvo/Wright buses, Wrights are very much starting to go their own way anyway and they're hardly going to want to continue allowing their bodywork to be applied to what really will be one of their competitors. Volvo/Wright is my preferred combination, Volvo's well proven reliability, comfort and performance combined with Wrightbus build quality. That said, ADL of course allow their bodywork to be fitted to their competitors' chassis, mind you most ADL bodied buses are with their own chassis anyway. Might be good for Scania also, it's a shame to see how few they sell in the UK these days. I was on a Scania L94 Wright Solar this afternoon, and I really can't understand why they're not a popular chassis, it's every bit as good as a Wright Eclipse bodied B7RLE (with which it shares the same bodywork).
