Very sad news is that after 85 years of running buses in Co. Donegal, Lough Swilly called in the receivers last Friday. School services finished last Friday and the news came today that all main road services will cease this Friday, 18 April. It is not known what will happen in a couple of weeks time when the schools resume again. At the moment it looks like the 20 Derry based and 60 Donegal based staff will lose their jobs. The company has been in trouble for a while now and HMRC had filed a petition seeking their winding up.
On a personal note, I have been following this fleet with interest for over 30 years now. Over that time I have made many friends among the management, drivers and engineers employed by the company and it will be sad to see these good men lose their jobs. Always very welcoming and helpful to those of us in the enthusiast fraternity, I am really going to miss my trips up to the North West to seek out their vehicles.
